Why should my Middle/High school take part?
Open to all ages and abilities, Mencap's Spellathon is an exciting new global spelling competition
Spellathon is presented by ‘The Professor’ – a fabulous 3D character voiced by Stephen Fry –and is set in a digital universe accessible via online, mobile or tablet.
Students pledge a target number of words to spell correctly whilst practicing at home ahead of the championships. They do this by playing fun Spellathon spelling games on computer, mobile or tablet. Their own JustGiving fund raising page is automatically set up when they create their Spelling Bee Profile and all the words spelt correctly, whilst playing the free games, are “banked” in their hive and their scores are displayed on the global leader board!
Students can even compete against Stephen Fry in ‘The Reverse Spellathon Challenge’ to be held at the end of February 2012.
The Spellathon championships take place ‘virtually’ online in March 2012. Entrants have 15 minutes to record the longest word run of correctly spelt words.
In addition to raising vital funds for Mencap; the voice of learning disability, your school will also benefit by receiving 25% of the money your students raise!
